Testimonial:
"Hippophile Farm has been a godsend for me and my horses. I grew up riding but had to give it up when I left for college. Fifteen years later, I decided I wanted to get back into riding so I adopted a horse from a rescue organization and began to board at Hippophile Farm during the summer and fall months. Right away it was obvious to me that Kris Carey is a knowledgeable and experienced horsewoman who takes much pride in keeping a clean and organized riding facility.
The best part about boarding at Hippophile Farm is the level of personalized care and training provided there. Each horse is seen as an individual with particular needs regarding both care and training. Kris is experienced in teaching multiple disciplines of riding and will create a training program to meet your individual goals.
At Hippophile Farm, horses and riders are not simply clientele, they are treated as family. This was very evident when my beloved horse Skye – a very spirited OTTB – fell while playing and suffered a broken leg. I made the tough decision to spare him any more pain and chose to have him put down. It was the hardest choice I have ever had to make, but Kris and her husband Tibbs were there with me the whole time, taking his last pictures and helping me say goodbye to my good friend.
My new horse Finn is now in full-time training at Hippophile Farm with Kris. He has a few kinks to work out and Kris has done wonders with him while also helping me to become a better, more confident rider so Finn and I can start to compete in shows.
I live in the Twin Cities most of the year so Finn and I are apart for much of the time except on weekends and in the summer. It is a relief to know he is in such good hands when I am gone so I never have to worry about how he is doing or whether he is receiving quality care."

Training:
Here at Hippophile Farm we use the basic principles of dressage (means to train) to teach both horse and rider. Trainer Kris Carey has been influenced by the very best in the business. She has worked under the guidance of world renowned professional horsemen Cyril Pittion-Rossillon & Lynn Palm, as a student of Cyril & Lynns for over 16 years, and a Bronze Level Affiliate of Palm Partnership Training. Kris has seen many styles of training, but believes that the basic principles of dressage lay the foundation for whatever discipline your horse may be headed. I have had many successes watching not only horses I work with progress happily, but others as well succeed when basic dressage is incorporated with the skills needed in disciplines such as jumping, western pleasure, hunt seat, eventing…..
When training the young horse, Kris uses ground work to establish trust. By teaching the horse to work first at liberty, then lungeing, in hand work, and ground driving. As these skills progress the horse is ready to be started under saddle. Then the fundamentals of dressage are implemented, combined with all the necessary work to bring the horse to a level of fitness required for the job they are being asked to perform. Kris does not take horses for less than 3 months and feels consistent training can only be done over a period of several months to establish any real foundation. A limited number of training horses are taken each year, as Kris believes in quality not quantity…
Training includes a customized program based on an assessment of horses ability and current level of training, in conjunction with the goals of owner.
If you need a young horse started, or an older horse tuned up you have come to the right place.
Instruction:
Kris has a genuine enthusiasm for teaching. She believes that teaching the proper basics to the rider is of the utmost importance. Just as it is for the horse, a rider can only advance when the basics have been taught well. Kris breaks down the correct riders position and how this affects the horses balance in an easy to understand way. She uses fun exercises to help both horse & rider stay interested with the challenges at hand. Safety is a top priority at Hippophile Farm. Kris teaches all ages, all levels of riders. She has experience with riders age 7 – 70!!!Kris herself has competed in AQH A progressive & open working hunter, hunter hack classes, USEF Hunter/Jumper classes & USDF Dressage competition. She uses the dressage to help keep her hunters traveling correct especially for their work on the flat. Her particular favorite discipline is the over fence classes, so she especially loves to teach both horse and rider over fences.
Lessons can be taken either privately or with a group, on your horse or one of our seasoned lesson horses…
